Description
De Havilland Otter Mahogany Model
The De Havilland Otter is a single-engined, high-wing, propeller-driven, STOL (short takeoff and landing) aircraft developed by de Havilland Canada. The Otter was conceived to be capable of performing the same roles as the earlier and highly successful Beaver, but was overall a larger aircraft. When design began on the Otter, original name “King Beaver”, in January 1951, they were trying to extend the company’s line of rugged STOL utility transports that had begun with the Beaver. The new design incorporated a longer fuselage, greater-span wings, a cruciform tail, and was much heavier. The main user of the aircraft is the United States Army but it also used in the military in Australia, Canada, and India. The Otter is also popular in the skydiving community and can be found in many dropzones throughout the world.
