Hoover’s Fighting Spitfire Limited Edition Sam Lyons Print
Years before he made a name for himself as a death-defying airshow entertainer, aviation legend Robert A. “Bob” Hoover served his country as a USAF test pilot & fighter pilot. In Hoover’s Fighting Spitfire, world-renowned aviation artist Sam Lyons pays tribute to the founding father of modern aerobatics by showcasing his 52d Fighter Group Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vc., the very aircraft in which Hoover was shot down while on a search & destroy mission off the coast of Southern France. Through his adroit application of just the right colors, Lyons makes Hoover’s Spitfire come to life. Also notable is the exceptionally detailed rolling landscape in the background, the hypnotizing hue of the sapphire-shaded water below, and the trailing black smoke as one of Hoover’s comrades is hit by enemy fire.
This image is available as both an Artist Proof (limited to 30) and a signed & numbered Limited Edition print (limited to 300). Both versions are printed on acid-free paper, utilize first-rate permanent inks, and include a Certificate of Authenticity. Further adding to its appeal is the fact that Hoover himself has co-signed the piece along with the artist. A true treasure of aviation artistry as immortal as Hoover himself.
