RC-121D Warning Star Mahogany Model
The Lockheed EC-121 Warning Star was an airborne early warning radar surveillance aircraft, used by the United States Navy and United States Air Force. The EC-121 is a military version of the Lockheed Constellation, and was designed to serve as an airborne early warning system to supplement the Distant Early Warning Line.
This specific EC-121 model is the US Air Force version: RC-121D (or EC-121D). Warning Stars of the USAF served during the Vietnam War as both electronic sensor monitors and as a forerunner to the Boeing E-3 Sentry AWACS. The RC-135 was introduced in 1954 and retired from USAF service in 1978.
