Description
Shadows and Mist Limited Edition Sam Lyons Print
Despite its (literally) obscure title, Sam Lyons’ Shadows and Mist is not about some super-secret cloak-and-dagger society or its covert capers. Instead, this 16″ x 20″ illustration can best be summed up as art imitating art imitating life. In fact, Lyons based this drawing off an award-winning photograph from a contest held by the Seaplane Pilots Association. Dan Gervae of Iron River, Michigan, captured an early morning snapshot of his float-equipped Taylorcraft docked amidst a hazy atmosphere, and Lyons elected to replicate the photo with ink on paper. As you can see, the artist’s superb use of shadowing and reflection has precisely captured the ambience of the post-dawn setting, and his flawless rendering of the T-Craft – complete with a shadow – further augments the authenticity of the scene. Although it appears as something out of a dream, this picture is, in fact, firmly grounded in reality.
This image is available as both an Artist Proof (limited to 20) and a signed & numbered Limited Edition print (limited to 250). Both versions are printed on acid-free paper, utilize first-rate permanent inks, and include a Certificate of Authenticity. An immaculate artist’s rendering of a prize-winning photograph that goes to show the truth is better than fiction.
