Shining Stallion Limited Edition Sam Lyons Print
There’s not a warbird enthusiast or aviation art aficionado in existence who could deny the sheer artistic brilliance that defines Sam Lyons’ Shining Stallion. Besides showcasing a radiant P-51D Mustang, this 16″ x 24″ illustration is chock-full of history. The stallion in question, affectionately labeled “Lil’ Margaret,” was flown by 9th Air Force pilot – and Mustang Ace – Clyde B. East as a photo-reconnaissance plane. After decades in retirement, the P-51D was meticulously restored by Henry “Butch” Schroeder and went on to win the WWII Grand Champion trophy at the 1993 EAA AirVenture gathering. Lyons treats admirers to a 5 O’Clock view of the polished pony, which glistens like a lustrous star. In fact, the level of scintillating sheen is so lifelike, you can even see the image’s cloudy sky reflected in its fuselage. More than a few observers will probably feel as if they could reach out and run their hands along the fighter’s sleek surface. Without a doubt, the artist has polished this production to perfection.
This drawing is available as both an Artist Proof (limited to 20) and a signed & numbered Limited Edition print (limited to 200). A magnificent tribute to an exceptional aircraft that gives a whole new meaning to the term “horsepower.”
