Description
Beechcraft® C17L Staggerwing Limited Edition Large Mahogany Model
First flown in 1932, the Beech Staggerwing was the first production aircraft of the Beech Aircraft Company of Wichita, Kansas. It was designed as a fast, comfortable business aircraft. The staggered wing design improved the pilot’s forward visibility. Each aircraft was custom built by hand, and more than 780 Beech 17s were sold. The aircraft could be powered by engines from 300hp to 450 hp and could cruise at more than 200 mph. This is a model of aircraft serial number 93. Interesting fact: The first owner was E. E. Aldrin, father of Astronaut “Buzz” Aldrin. Eventually, this aircraft had 19 different owners, and is now part of the National Air and Space Museum collection.
