Description
DC-7C Pan Am Mahogany Model
The DC-7 is an American transport aircraft built by the Douglas Aircraft Company from 1953 to 1958, and was the last major piston engine powered transport made by Douglas. The early DC-7s were only purchased by U.S. carriers; European carriers could not take advantage of the small range increase in the early DC-7. To meet the European demand, Douglas released an extended-range variant, the DC-7C (Seven Seas) in 1956. This specific DC-7 model is the DC-7C.
This specific model is painted in the Pan Am paint scheme. Pan American World Airways was founded in 1927 as a scheduled air mail and passenger service operating between Key West FL and Havana, Cuba. The airline has become a major company credited with many innovations that shaped the international airline industry, including the widespread use of jet aircraft, jumbo jets, and computerized reservation systems.
