Description
Gee Bee Air Racer Limited Edition Sam Lyons Print
Look closely. Blink. Look again. Despite your initial perception, the image that grace’s Sam Lyons’ Gee Bee Air Racer is NOT a photograph; it’s actually an extremely lifelike ink-on-paper illustration that only a master artist like Sam could produce. With this 16″ x 20″ drawing, Lyons honors a beloved little speed demon from the golden age of air racing. Although the aircraft’s animated attributes make it look like something out of a Disney cartoon, the legendary line of Granville Brothers Aircraft were widely used on the 1930s racing circuit. In this picture, viewers will note that Sam has gone to great lengths to reproduce the Racer exactly as it appears in the real world. Scrutinize his rendering with a fine-tooth comb – spinner to tailwheel – and you’ll notice it’s a spot-on duplicate of the real McCoy; even the rivets are in the right places! In fact, compare it to a photo and you’ll be hard-pressed to distinguish the photograph from the sketch. The artist’s top-notch depiction of the grass and the cloudy sky further enhance the image by adding a bit of a three-dimensional effect. This is by far the best portrayal of the Gee Bee Racer ever created without the use of a camera.
This picture is available as both an Artist Proof (limited to 10) and a signed & numbered Limited Edition print (limited to 100). Both versions are printed on acid-free paper, utilize first-rate permanent inks, and include a Certificate of Authenticity. A flawless rendition of an age-old aviation classic the likes of which the world has never seen.
