L-1049 Super Constellation TWA (L) Mahogany Model
The L-1049 Super Constellation “Connie” is an American aircraft, a member of the Lockheed Constellation aircraft line. The Constellation family were propeller-driven airliners built by Lockheed between 1943 and 1958. A total of 856 aircraft were produced in numerous models, all distinguished by a triple-tail design and dolphin-shaped fuselage. The L-1049 was Lockheed’s response to the successful Douglas DC-6 airliner, first flying in 1950. The aircraft was also produced for both the United States Navy and Air Force as transport and AWACS aircraft.
This specific Super Constellation model is painted as an airliner for Trans World Airlines (TWA). TWA was an American airline that existed from 1925 until it was bought out by and merged with American Airlines in 2001.
