After years of making variations on the same plane, Learjet broke the mold with the 45 model. Launched in 1998, the Learjet 45 was the first all new design since the original Learjet, the Lear 23. What made it stand out was an oval-shaped fuselage – as opposed to a circular one – that offered more headroom, and also a new wing design. Learjet built a reported 642 before discontinuing the model in 2012.
