The two parties agreed that Lockheed couldn’t sell the Constellation to anyone else until they had delivered 35 to TWA. The plan worked. Affectionately known as Connie, the 44-passenger L-1049 became an enduring symbol of aviation, the epitome of class and luxury in the golden age of propeller-driven flight.
