Description
Lockheed Vega “Amelia Earhart” Limited Edition Large Mahogany Model
The Lockheed Vega was first built in 1927. It is a single-engine aircraft with seating for up to 7 passengers. The wings and fuselage were covered with fabric. Originally powered by a 400 hp radial engine, Amelia Earhart had a more powerful engine installed along with greater fuel capacity. Earhart set two world records in the aircraft: the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic from North America to Europe, and the first to fly solo non-stop across the United States from west to east. Interesting Fact: Earhart’s Red Vega is now on display in the Smithsonian Museum.
