Description
R3C-2 Doolittle Mahogany Model
The R3C was an US-American racing aircraft built in landplane (R3C-1) and seaplane (R3C-2) form. Both versions were single-seated biplanes built by the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company. This specific model is the seaplane version, which was built for the Schneider Trophy race. Three R3C-2 planes were entered into the race, two didn’t reach the finish line, the third, which was piloted by Jimmy Doolittle, won the trophy with a speed of 232.57 mph.
