Description
T-34C Mentor USN Mahogany Model
The T-34 Mentor is a propeller-driven, single-engined, military trainer aircraft derived from the Beechcraft Model 35 Bonanza. The T-34 design was similar to the Bonanza but had a narrower fuselage which incorporated a two-seater tandem cockpit and bubble canopy. This change provided greater visibility for the trainee pilot and flight instructor. The T-34 was introduced in 1953 and still remains in service, more than six decades later.
This specific T-34 model is the T-38C Turbo-Mentor, which was developed in 1973. The T-34C has been used by the Naval Air Training Command to train numerous Naval Aviators and Naval Flight Officers for the US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Coast Guard, and numerous NATO and Allied nations. With over 35 years of service, the T-34C is gradually being phased out of the US Navy’s inventory and will eventually be replaced by the T-6 Texan II.
